Topping Out at Buckinghamshire Hillside Home

Topping Out at Buckinghamshire Hillside Home

We’ve reached a significant milestone at our striking Buckinghamshire project, with the successful completion of the concrete roof pour – marking the ‘topping out’ of this ambitious contemporary home.

The complex pour, covering 500m² in two sections, showcases the precision engineering our management required for this pavilion-style home. Drone footage captures the scale and style of the structure as it emerges from the hillside and shows how the complexity and ingenuity of the partially subterranean design aims to blend into the surrounding landscape.

Managing Director Christian Hale comments, “We’re about two-thirds of the way through this project now and I’m proud of the collaboration, care and attention the entire team has shown so far. The site team have had their work cut out, along with our structural engineer partners Adkins Consultants, but things are shaping up nicely.”

The technical challenges of building on a slope have proved our expertise in complex construction. We’ve maintained momentum and quality despite the site’s unique demands and some inclement weather.

We’re due to complete the 15-month programme in summer 2025. Designed by Mullery Architects, this 6,500 square foot home will have a roof with solar panels, roof lights and sedum sections. We will wrap the clean lines of the concrete structure with a mix of charred larch, steel, and brick cladding to help it appear like it’s grown from the countryside.

The dramatic cantilevered canopies will look impressive and provide practical shading. Large Compass Glass windows will make the most of the breathtaking views, while sliding larch screens will help manage thermal gain and improve environmental efficiency.

Once the shell is watertight, we’ll shift our attention to the interior, where we’ll be adding fine finishes and natural materials, including slatted ceilings and extensive wooden flooring. Our M&E partners Mesh will step up their involvement too, connecting the sustainable tech and modern living luxuries such as solar PVs and batteries, MVHR and entertainment systems.
